The causes making heats for LED video wall

LED heat is because the electrical energy added is not all converted into light energy, but part of the conversion into heat energy.

the luminous efficiency of LED is only 100lm/W, its electro-optical conversion efficiency is only about 20% ~ 30%. This means that about 70% of the electrical energy is turned into heat. Specifically, the LED temperature is due to 2 factors caused by. 

1. Internal quantum efficiency is not high, that is, in the electron and hole compound, and not 100% of all photons, usually called by the “current leakage” and make the PN area carrier compound rate is reduced. The leakage current multiplied by the voltage is the power of this part, which is converted into heat, but this part does not constitute the main component, because the internal photon efficiency is already close to 90%.

Heat dissipation solutions for LED video wall

To solve the heat dissipation of LED, mainly from two aspects, before and after packaging, can be understood as Led chip heat dissipation and Led lamps heat dissipation. Led chip heat dissipation is mainly related to the choice and process of substrate and circuit, because any LED will be made into lamps, so the heat generated by the LED chip is always finally dissipated into the air through the housing of the lamps. If the heat dissipation is not good, because the heat capacity of the LED chip is very small, a little accumulation of heat will make the junction temperature of the chip increase rapidly, and if it works at high temperatures for a long time, its life will be shortened very quickly. However, these heat to be able to really guide out of the chip to reach the outside air, to go through many ways. Specifically, the heat generated by the LED chip comes out of its metal heat sink, first through the solder to the PCB of the aluminium substrate, and then through the heat-conducting adhesive before reaching the aluminium heat sink. Fans LED video wall are internally enhanced with long-life, high-efficiency fans to dissipate heat at a low cost and with good results.

Overall the luminous efficiency of LEDs is still relatively low, which causes junction temperatures to rise and life expectancy to decrease. In order to reduce the junction temperature to increase the life time it is necessary to pay great attention to the issue of heat dissipation.
